Description
A fluffy, golden Disney classic inspired by The Princess and the Frog. These warm, sweet beignets are lightly dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with honey for that perfect southern touch.
Ingredients
3 cups of flour, plus more for dusting
3/4 teaspoon of kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
3 tablespoons of sugar, divided
1 cup of warm whole milk
1 packet of active dry yeast
1 large egg
3 tablespoons of melted butter
1 1/2 to 2 quarts of vegetable oil
2 cups of powdered sugar
Honey for drizzle
Instructions
1. Combine flour, salt, nutmeg, and 2 tablespoons of sugar in a large bowl.
2. In another bowl, mix warm milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and yeast; let it sit until foamy.
3. Beat in the egg, then add to dry ingredients.
4. Add melted butter and knead until smooth and slightly tacky.
5. Let the dough rise for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
6. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick and cut into 12 rectangles.
7. Heat oil to 325°F and fry beignets 90 seconds per side.
8. Remove, drain, dust with powdered sugar, and drizzle with honey.
Notes
Serve warm for best flavor.
Pair with coffee or milk for a true New Orleans feel.
For extra sweetness, add a touch of cinnamon sugar.
